AMC is the largest cinema operator in the United States. It will as well accept ether, litecoin, and bitcoin cash alongside bitcoin as a form of payment.
AMC Entertainment Holdings runs the largest movie theater chain in America. According to an announcement made in August, it will start accepting bitcoin for tickets and concessions. The new form of payment is said to be available for the public later this year.
“We are also in the preliminary stage of now exploring how else AMC can participate in this new burgeoning cryptocurrency universe and we’re quite intrigued by potentially lucrative business opportunities for AMC if we intelligently pursue further serious involvement with cryptocurrency.”
But Bitcoin won’t be the only virtual currency that will be accepted when the service becomes available.
In a tweet posted by Adam Aron, ether, litecoin, and bitcoin cash will also be part of the new payment method.
“Cryptocurrency enthusiasts: you likely know @AMCTheatres has announced we will accept Bitcoin for online ticket and concession payments by year-end 2021. I can confirm today that when we do so, we also expect that we similarly will accept Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash.”
People’s demand to buy online tickets with virtual currencies has been growing lately, and the firm wants to please its customers as soon as possible. AMC also announced that it is planning to open more locations in the US. But Europe and the Middle East before January 2022 are also being considered.
AMC Entertainment Holdings’ stock shares went from $33 to $35 after the news was announced in August. The 13.2% increase is good news for the company, especially after it almost appeared destined for bankruptcy as the global pandemic forced AMC to close all its locations.
